The Network Engineer is a key role for our firm providing day-to-day management, monitoring and support of the global IP network and the associated infrastructure, as well as the implementation of various projects such as hardware upgrades, new office buildouts, and rollout of features or technology developed in partnership with the Engineering team.
This is a hands-on role in which the engineer actively and frequently participates in support, troubleshooting, implementation, coordination and other day-to-day tasks. Candidates must be knowledgeable of commercial networking platforms and supporting products, e.g. WAN and LAN switching & routing, wireless, NAC. Programming skills and knowledge of automation/orchestration tools such as Python, Ansible, etc. are very important. Other activities include analysis of ticket information for chronic issues, proper escalation with service providers and equipment manufacturer support, coordinating and leading problem resolution across IT teams.
The key job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Ownership and accountability of escalated problem tickets and cross-discipline troubleshooting, problem solving and optimization efforts
Proactive monitoring of network health and analysis, development and recommendation of resolution to any potential issues
Escalate issues with vendors including carriers, manufacturers (e.g. Cisco, Juniper, etc.) and service providers
Proactively monitor performance, capacity and QoS queue utilization and recommend upgrades in capacity as necessary
Escalation point for offshore Network Operations Center personnel
Maintain device software versions according to standards and policies
Develop templates for standard configurations and maintain device configurations according to these templates
Maintain detailed documentation
Implementing new features and practices as developed by Engineering
Formulating a roll out strategy for new features/platforms as determined by team’s strategy
Manage multiple network projects and infrastructure across multiple platforms; networks, public cloud and/or applied security technologies
Ensure that a thorough and detailed handover to Operations team from Engineering or Implementation teams, including training on new technologies to be deployed.
Weekend and weeknight work should be expected as to ensure that any implementation work does not interfere with the operation of the production environment
The ideal candidate will have prior financial services industry experience, a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or closely related subject, and with 8+ years’ experience in support of a complex network infrastructure. The position requires strong team-building skills and must be able to collaborate effectively with a group of high performing individuals. Cisco CCNP or other vendor equivalent certifications is desired.
Required Skills:
A thorough understanding of Cisco IOS and NX-OS routers and switches and Cisco Aironet Wireless
A thorough understanding of Aruba CX switches, Wireless, Central and ClearPass
A thorough understanding of Arista switches, VXLAN technology and Arista CloudVision
A thorough understanding of SD WAN technology
Python, Perl, PowerShell, C/C++ or other scripting/programming knowledge
Knowledge and experience with DevOps processes and with “Infrastructure as Code” leveraging Ansible and/or SaltStack and related tools for configuration management and compliance to standards, reporting of same and bare metal provisioning
A thorough understanding of TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, NAT, Access-Lists, route redistribution, 802.1x, Spanning-Tree, H.323, SIP, VOIP, QoS, DNS, DHCP, IP address management and firewalls
Experience with Private and Public Cloud is desired, preferably Microsoft Azure
Very strong analytical & problem-solving skills, including detailed network and packet capture analysis using Wireshark or Gigamon
Strong written and oral communication skills with an understanding that group presentations on created work will be required for knowledge transfer
Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior management
Familiarity with the change, incident and problem management systems & procedures
Must be able to work as part of a global team with colleagues in the US, UK, Amsterdam Hong Kong and India
