About the role
Enabling Units IT actively partners with business partners to deliver cutting-edge IT capabilities to fulfil AstraZeneca’s bold ambition of delivering life changing therapies to patients. Our ambition is to provide best-in-class expertise and leadership in technological solutions and Information Delivery that empowers our Enabling colleagues in the field and accelerates and improves strategic decision-making for a diverse range of partners. The team engages with some of the most exciting business areas within AstraZeneca and is faced with solving for a variety of complex business and IT challenges.
The “Enabling Units IT Solution Management Lead” will be accountable for the Solution & Services Delivery catering to various business functions (Finance, Human Resources, Global Business Services, Legal, Global Sustainability, Mergers & Acquisitions, Corporate Affairs and Facilities Management) located in AstraZeneca’s Global Technology & Innovation Centres (GITC) in Chennai and Guadalajara. The role will report into the EUIT Head of Solution Delivery & Service.
This role will manage a team of IT professionals delivering a diverse set of services and building bespoke & integration solutions which will accelerate AstraZeneca’s ability to run and transform a critical business platform. Services will include Application Maintenance, Application Development, DevOps, Automation and Monitoring solutions.
Working alongside the Solution Delivery & Service Leadership team, the Solution Management Lead will manage Solution Delivery & Service Teams for the technology stacks across .NET, Java, Oracle, Power Apps & Enterprise Platforms. The Solution Management Lead needs a deep understanding of technology, architecture, and design along with experience in Service Management, using Agile methodology and DevOps principles. This leader should be passionate about software development and be willing to lead, coach and enable wider teams to grow and expand their software delivery capabilities and skills.
The successful candidate will be helping define, form, evolve and implement the strategy for the Solution Management teams in Enabling Units IT. From an operational perspective, the role is responsible for ensuring that all GITC services and deliverables are aligned to SLAs. An agile win: win approach and a continuous delivery focus will essential to continuously positively challenge the landscape status quo.
The role will be encouraged to continuously develop the team and identify and build new capabilities in the Solution Management area to help them be the engine room for leading Digital Transformation within Enabling Units IT and across our supported business areas. The role should have expertise for delivering business value via groundbreaking technological solutions and digital practices. This ability and desire will be tempered with a strong understanding and respect for compliance, data privacy and ethical technology considerations.
The role and core accountabilities
Own the strategy and operations for the Solution Management function by developing a deep understanding of the business strategies, priorities and challenges and ensuring that investments in the center are aligned to business objectives
Accountable for leading and continuously managing a global team (direct and indirect reporting lines)
Be an active member of the EUIT SD&S and GITC leadership teams
Build and support the teams through hiring, coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development that helps drive high quality software delivery
Relentlessly passionate about ensuring the Operational aspects of IT are maintained all within agreed compliance and privacy guidelines as well as meeting or exceeding Business expectations
Optimally leading a complex dual location matrix organization with an agile approach to proactively manage demand with the business and articulate mutual understanding of priorities and value
Working collaboratively with:
Other GITC areas across enterprise functions (ETS, ECS, IGNITE) in support of complex cross functional opportunities.
Maintaining a strong understanding of the latest Industry/Technology trends and promote platform ways of working
A keen eye for anticipating future trends and ensuring AZ are early adopters as appropriate
Working in close partnership with Business and IT partners and ensuring a focus on collaborative working and a Win: Win approach
The Solution Management Lead will maintain accountability for the effective use of AstraZeneca’s Software Development Lifecycle methodology and practices aligned with IT platform portfolio delivery
As needed, the Solution Management Lead maintains and provides technical expertise to aligned implementation platform teams working on the development, configuration, testing, release, maintenance, and improvement of IT platforms and products
Education, qualifications and experience:
ESSENTIAL
Industry recognised experience in In-House/Captive or global IT service organizations
Experience in leading large organization’s (50+) and providing leadership/development to other managers and leading a diverse range of activities through others in a hybrid line management and matrix organisation
Collaborative, Innovative, Win: Win Attitude
Forward thinking and independent perspectives on Technology and IT leaderships
Evidence of leading and developing strategic solutions and business cases providing measurable business Value (Idea through to Delivery/Measurement)
Working in a complex Global Organisation
Understanding of software engineering CI/CD processes, with experience in the design and implementation of applications build, release, deployment, containerization and configuration control management
Experience working with JIRA, Service Now and Automated Testing tools (Jenkins, Bamboo, JIRA, Confluence, CI CD tools – Ansible, etc.)
Experience implementing leading edge technologies including .NET, Java, Oracle ADF, Springboot, eDiscovery tools, Elastic Search, Python, & CI/CD DevOps tools etc.
Experience in a validated environment with operational awareness of GxP and SOx
Desirable
Experience working with the Enabling Functions business areas
Experience in handling IT portfolios across multiple functional areas
Experience working in the Biopharmaceutical/Life Sciences industry (not essential).
Bachelors in Engineering + MBA would be the preferred qualification
