Basic Responsibilities:
Provide technical support and documentation for over 2000 Windows and Linux servers – both physical and virtual (Linux containers, VMware servers) and the infrastructure that hosts them (Dell & Supermicro hardware, SAN & NAS Storage arrays, Commvault backup platform ). Also, managing VMs residing on Private Cloud like Azure, Oracle Cloud etc.
Working with shell scripting, Cloud automation as needed
Perform daily systems monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, system, and key processes, reviewing system and application logs and verifying completion of scheduled job
Install new/rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
Work with users to troubleshoot and solve operational issues.
Assist in working with vendors and datacenter technicians for installing/troubleshooting/replacing installing/troubleshooting/replacing hardware as necessary
Maintain Windows and Linux Server operating systems and all components/services including Authentication, DNS, File Systems, DHCP, sFTP, TCP/IP and others.
Provide operating system level support to application developers and performs server migrations
Responsible for maintaining and deploying security patches to the server environment by following standard patching methodology
Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis and upgrade administrative tools and utilities.
Review the alerts generated by the monitoring systems that we have in the environment and take appropriate action
Work with other IT groups, business leads, consultants, and other stakeholders to develop, test, and maintain procedures for Disaster Recovery (DR). Maintain technical DR readiness.
Utilize ticketing system to address and resolve customer work requests
Provide tuning, troubleshooting and analysis for improving environment performance
Research and recommend innovative, and where possible, automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage resources.
Education and Experience:
4+ years of system administration experience in Red Hat Enterprise Linux or Oracle Solaris environments and experience with tasks as OS administration & Storage/Backup skills.
Private Cloud experience in Azure & Oracle Cloud (IaaS, PaaS)
Experience with scripting languages (bash, Perl, python).
Advanced experience with virtualization technologies (Oracle LDOM, Solaris zones, VMware ESX)
Advanced experience with server related technologies (e.g., RAID arrays, LVM, SAN, NAS)
