‘The incumbent will manage a team and be expected to also manage an associated budget up to $1M
Experience leading a successful innovation/R&D function in a listed company
Individual will have a successful track record of scouting, evaluating/creating new business opportunities /concepts that deliver direct benefit to the organization
Individual will ideally have occupied both technical and commercial roles in high-tech companies
The position requires strong leadership and communication skills and the ability to drive the development and successful market launch of new products and technologies that create value for the targeted areas of business. Candidate should have proven track record of successful new product launches.
Proven management track record managing highly motivated high performing teams who work well with aggressive timelines and expected delivery.
Minimum qualification & experience
Preferred technical degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent industry experience.
A minimum of 15 years of work experience in managing groups involved in R&D and Innovation combined with technically orientated commercial activities.
Proven ability of managing P&L and delivering clearly identifiable ROI
Strong management skills with direct hands-on approach
Ability to understand and implement new technologies and complex topics
Experience managing a professional services team (including customer facing skills) with highly technical associates
Background in architecting and designing complex customer solutions in a rapidly evolving technology domain
Other knowledge/skills
Record of working in a strategic advisory capacity to senior developers, IT, and business executives
Ability to work seamlessly with distributed, cross-functional teams to achieve success on behalf of customers
Balance of strategic and tactical skills, with good creative problem solving skills
Comfortable working with highly distributed teams, including interaction with open source communities
Strong communication and cross division/function team leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities
Innovation and Corporate Venturing
Deliver upon the STF Innovation imperative to develop rapid prototyping and proof of concepts throughout the existing product development infrastructure where appropriate
Managing a series of rapid developments encompassing the need to include latest technology trends to provide a leadership position for Tata Communications amongst its peers
Develop a rich set of technology demonstrators to inform the company of new paths to rapid solutions deployment
Enrich internal development pathways by seeding new technology and demonstrators in to BAU methodologies
‘1) Timeliness and responsiveness (stakeholders and manager feedback)

New Products Development
Guide the research pipelines of New Product Developments (NPD) in line with Tata corporate strategy and market opportunities ensuring that pipelines align
Evaluate existing technology platforms as well as potential external technologies/ organizations for candidacy to be developed in to demonstrators
Identify and establish partnerships with key internal product teams
Identify and establish partnerships with key external groups, e.g. Research Institutions, industry bodies, development communities.
Deliver upon the STF Innovation imperative to ensure that all Intellectual Property (IP) generated by the activities of the RED team is protected by appropriate means

Team Development
Regularly review team structure and assess talent requirements; participate in the recruitment and selection process; conduct goal setting and performance review for the team; drive team development, engagement and reward initiatives; coach and mentor team members as required and ensure resolution of any people issues.
Perform all necessary duties to ensure high levels of employee engagement including 1:1’s with all team Managers (weekly) and other staff (monthly); monthly Management, and monthly and bi-annual team meetings
