What’s the role?
The role of a Capital Project IM/IT Manager Europe (Project Information Management) is critical to helping Shell reach its’ project execution goals. The PIM leads the IM/IT team and represents the discipline towards both the Project execution team and the future Asset operations team. The main functions of the PIM role are to:
Establish and manage fit-for-purpose IT processes, technology and systems supporting the execution of the Capital Project (IT for Project). Lead the design and implementation of an integrated, robust suite of IT solutions enabling and supporting the long-term operation and maintenance of the constructed facilities (IT for Operate).
You will be entrusted with the following:
Project Management
Delivering complex IT projects, organized into programmes and workstreams to agreed time, cost, quality, risk and benefit profiles, within Shell’s standards and controls framework (Projects Delivery Framework – PDF).
Orchestrating the provision of the engineering IM services (i.e., document control, data control) to the Project Team.
Proactively analyzing variances against plan to assess trends threatening agreed scope, time, cost, and quality commitments. Identifies signs that a project may be at risk and takes appropriate action.
Aligning expectations and ensures that the decision-making of stakeholders is executed timely and effectively.
Driving the development of the DCAF (Discipline Controls and Assurance Framework) mandatory deliverables appropriate for the ORP phase of the Project. Ensuring alignment between the IM/IT and project management deliverables.
Engaging in the contractor selection process in order to articulate the specific IM/IT requirements in the Major Execution Contracts and key purchase orders. May drive the selection of external IM/IT execution contractors.
Determining, securing, and owning IM/IT budget. Measuring and regularly reporting progress of the delivery against a pre-determined set of KPIs.
Sponsoring the development and implementation of the IT and Project Information Handover Plans in collaboration with project engineers, commissioning, OR&A (Operations Readiness & Assurance) and the Operations team.
Ensuring the asset integrity through the delivery of complete and quality-controlled Asset information to Production Operations.
Stakeholder Management
Engaging senior business stakeholders and establishes a fit-for-purpose IM/IT governance model to maintain a strategic alignment between the Project, the IM/IT discipline in the Project and, the Operations team.
Managing a complex network of business and x-functional IT stakeholders, existing across organizational and geographic boundaries, structuring relationships to build rapport, trust, and mutual respect.
Leading business stakeholder engagements and seeking to inform, influence and challenge, using data driven insights to frame compelling stories (transform from document centric to data centric).
Championing and role-modeling a One Team mindset and aligning and orchestrating the business facing natural team(s) to enable the right business outcomes and yield value from technology and data.
Managing the reputation of the IT business portfolio and IT Function by telling the right stories and using the right data points at the right time.
Growing and refreshing internal and external networks to elevate future business differentiation through technology and data.
Innovation
Championing the value from technology individually, in their team(s), and across the IT business portfolio.
Embodying the learner mindset for knowledge of new and emerging technologies (products and services) through a rich network of internal and external stakeholders and industry events.
Sponsoring a data-centric approach to drive fact-based discussions and decision-making, seeking insights that inform technology choices (transform from document centric to data centric).
Promoting the use of new approaches, where beneficial, to their work and the work of their team(s), including design-thinking methods, prototyping, and agile ways of working.
Inspiring customer-centric approaches to strategic analysis, opportunity development, and solution design.
Value Generation & Integrated IT
Constantly striving to unlock business value and apply a commercial mindset to all aspects of the IT business portfolio.
Driving technology adoption for deeper customer penetration and competitive differentiation by challenging business models and processes no longer adding value, recommending options to pivot; advocating for replication of proven solutions rather than customized, new products.
Supporting business planning and facilitates complementary IT processes.
Orchestrating and brokering across functional lines to translate business requirements into value-enabling outcomes.
Delivery of safe, reliable, secure, and affordable operations by the IT portfolio in line with SLAs, including assurance activities, e.g. IM/IT health checks and project assurance reviews.
Team Leadership
Mobilizing and leading teams composed of a mixture of IM/IT project professionals and suppliers across organizational and geographic boundaries. Ensuring they have the necessary skills, capacity, and experience to achieve the required outcomes.
Developing and executing appropriate change and engagement plans to achieve necessary behaviour changes in order to maximise benefits.
Participating in the annual GPA/IDP (Goals Performance Assessment – Individual Development Plan) cycle of staff by providing input to the IPF / CEP (Individual Performance Factor and Current Estimated Potential) ranking sessions and progression panels (where applicable).
Fostering a learner mindset within their team, inspiring others to learn from failure and apply learnings to future work.
HSSE Commitment
Leading by example and regular hands-on engagement with the IM/IT team members and execution contractors about HSSE, including periodic site safety walk-downs.
Ensuring minimum HSSE competency level amongst IT and IM Contract Holders.
Managing quality, complying with the Shell Business HSSE Principles (Leadership, Risk Management Preparation & Application, or adequate external standards).
What we need from you
The role requires at a minimum, a solid foundation in projects and Capital Projects. It is strongly desired that the applicant possess experience due to a previous role in:
An IM or IT delivery role for a Capital Project, with specific knowledge of IT applications and infrastructure solutions common to Capital Projects
Asset organization for example working with central and local business IT to ensure successful Project to Asset (P2A) data delivery
Downstream and Manufacturing domain experience preferred.
Data literate, fundamentals, critical thinking, integration, and data value generation skills are key.
